John Stebbins "Rides for the Roses" with Lance Armstrong and 7,000 other members of the Lance Armstrong Foundation Peloton Project, October 23, 2005, Austin, Texas

« Back to Activities index

On October 23, 2005, 7,000 cyclists from all over the world converged on Austin, Texas to ride with Lance Armstrong, the founder of the Lance Armstrong Foundation, unprecedented 7-time winner of the Tour de France, and himself a cancer survivor. The riders were part of the Peloton Project, the Lance Armstrong Foundation's major fundraising and outreach project, comprised of cyclists, cancer survivors and other volunteers who want to make a difference in the fight against cancer. Together, they raised over $7 million dollars this year for cancer research and advocacy programs.

This was John Stebbins' first year participating in this charity event and he plans to make it an annual pilgrimage. John rode the 100 mile course and was greeted with a shower of yellow rose petals when he crossed the finish line, after almost 7 hours in the saddle ... quite an accomplishment for only having taken up serious road cycling just three months before the ride.

John wishes to thank all his friends and colleagues who helped him raise $1,825 for the LAF in 05.

...still smiling, dispite the sore muscles.
