LiveStrong Challenge 06

« Back to Activities index

The LiveStrong Challenge came to Orange County California on a bright Sunday, June 25, and there I was with 1500 other riders. The annual "Ride for the Roses" had become so popular that the Lance Armstrong Foundation decided this year to organize rides in five different cities.

We were all off by 8:00 AM and those who signed up for the longer distances found ourselves as far south as the Ritz Carlton Resort in Dana Point and then back through central Orange county into Silverado Canyon.

The most thrilling thing for me was that the ride went right past my house in Irvine! I mentioned this to one of my riding companions and he said that I should have had a nice cool brew waiting for me to grab as I passed by. Had I known the ride was snaking through my neighborhood, this would have been a refreshing idea on this hot summer day.

I crossed the finish line at about 3:15 in the afternoon, greeted by Foundation cheer leaders, one of them handing me a yellow rose as a reward. I racked up 75 miles this time on behalf of cancer survivors.

The highlight of the event was the realization that the Lance Armstrong Foundation should be the official corporate charity of Digital Vision. The Board of Directors has agreed to make it so.
